ScienceMathMaster

ScienceMathMaster provides professional development to teachers, upgrading their skills in Biology and Math and boosting the performance of high school students who must master science and math to succeed in school and beyond. In partnership with the Florida Department of Education, the University of Tampa is developing and delivering classroom sessions and an on-line system for teachers statewide. The sessions and system focus on:

1. Expanding teachers’ science and math content and instructional skills;

2. Demonstrating effective tactics and techniques that address the new Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for science and math; and

3. Producing on-line tools that teachers and students can use statewide.

ScienceMathMaster will provide professional development to 32 rural school districts, the Hillsborough School District and the Manatee School District, initially. The University of Tampa will deliver a tailored science and math curriculum on-line, on-campus and on-site, focused on Biology and Math for high school students. Working with the Florida Learning Alliance, Heartland Educational Consortium, North East Florida Educational Consortium, Panhandle Area Educational Consortium and the Florida Independent College Fund, the partnership will boost teacher and student science performance. In its first year, ScienceMathMaster has three elements: 1) Website+ Sessions with on-line science & math tutorials; 2) four School-Year Sessions on-campus and on-site, focused on Biology, Math and the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards; and 3) two Summer-Sessions at the University of Tampa for educators that include coursework, hands-on labs and student demonstration classes to teach and test ScienceMathMaster lessons on targeted students.
